90 minutes in Heaven by Don Piper with Cecil Murphy
I have read the book 90 minutes in Heaven and in my opinion it is a remarkable book and a MUST read!
It tells the life story of Don Piper, who has been an ordained minister since 1985, writes a weekly newspaper and column, leads conferences and retreats in the USA and abroad, right after his accident which made him face two weeks in ICU, a year in a hospital bed, and 34 operations.
In his car accident he actually died and went to heaven. He was sent back to tell us the story.
And I really find it very touching and beautiful his description of Heaven. I could, as so many others did, have asked me to tell me again and again about Heaven. I wouldn't get tired.
He starts describing Heaven right on the second chapter of the book and he writes that when he died he had no sense of going through a dark tunnel or fading away or of coming back. He did sense a light enveloped him with a brilliance beyond earthly comprehension. Isn't that amazing?
He also felt an immense joy and there were so many people in Heaven. There was a brilliant, ornate gate. The distance didn't matter. Although he didn't see Jesus he did see a lot of people that parted away before that point in his life. And their presence seemed absolutely natural.
He didn't really feel the need to ask about his own family on Earth or even worried about it. The sensation of peace and joy were overwhelming.
The people he saw in Heaven were just like the way he remembered them on Earth when they were alive on the planet but with a huge difference. Each one of them were strong and live like never before.
Everything felt blissful. Everything was perfect!
When meeting and talking to people in heaven their conversation centered on the joy of his being there and on how everybody was happy to see him there.
You see, in Heaven you don't miss home because you are home.
He felt loved like never before. And he heard music, It was like many angels and people were praising God and yet all those voices together, singing many different songs of praise at the same time, he could hear them in perfect harmony and distinguish each one of them separately.
Don continues in his book describing the feelings and sensations he felt and the peace. Later on the book he writes that in his darkest painful hour he could still sense God with him.
One the messages I take from reading this book is that God might not deliver us from pain but He will be there with us all through it. And pain is just temporary. No matter how bad, how long we feel pain, it is only temporary. When we get home, when we get to Heaven we get to stay there permanently and there is no more pain, no more needing. There is a blissful felling of overwhelming love and peace.
And you? Have you read this book yet? Please write in the comments below about what you learned from it!
God bless you now!
